• Scott Joplin [right] (between July 1867 and January 1868 – April 1, 1917) was an African-American composer andpianist, born nearTexarkana,Texas, into the first post-slavery generation. He achieved fame for his uniqueragtime compositions, and was dubbed the "King of Ragtime." During his brief career, he wrote forty-four original ragtime pieces, one ragtime ballet, and two operas. One of his first pieces, the "Maple Leaf Rag", became ragtime's first and most influential hit, and remained so for a century.
• Ton Van Bergeyk [below] doesn't seem to be on the internet anywhere. His pieces are ragtime on fingerstyle acoustic guitar, and he is a mad man. All I know about the recordings is that they're Dutch and they're from the 70s.
